Who Am I?
John has spent most of his life counseling, coaching and caring for those in need. During his early life he felt a vocation for the Catholic priesthood and at the age of 12 was accepted to the Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. After high school, he went to Michigan State University as an Evans Scholar. Here played Big Ten Football for the legendary coach Duffy Daugherty and was a University Rhodes Scholar Candidate.
Upon graduation he taught English and Reading and coached high school sports at St. Clemens High School. He then went on to Notre Dame Law School and pursued a Personal Injury Practice in Michigan for over 35 years, serving the needs of clients experiencing catastrophic injury and loss. During this time, he also developed career as a Hollywood screenwriter, having written over 30 screenplay, half of which have been either sold or optioned and two were development deals for Walt Disney Studios.
He has also worked as an artist, musician, playwrite, poet and entrepreneur. He now serves full time as a Life Coach and sits as board president for the St. Clair Butterfly Foundation, and organization which offers deprived, young adults programs for the arts (music, painting, writing and yoga) in “at risk” communities in the Metro Detroit area.
John firmly believes that a Life Coach and mentor needs humor, passion, purpose and true to life experience to help those who seek his service. One of his most recent (and proudest) accomplishment has been his successful encounter and treatment for cancer. (Affectionately, referred to his “Dance with Cancer”)
He coaches clients with a spiritual platform utilizing the tools of goal achieving, life purpose, clarity, compassion and accountability. His wife beautiful wife Carrie has been his counselor and companion for 34 years. His golden retriever “Bella” is his favorite (non-human) inspiration and friend.
John’s favorite observation about “the human experience” is as follows, “It is not what happens to you in life that is as important as with what you do with what happens.” Every challenge in life comes with a fresh start and a fresh opportunity for amazing grace and amazing good! “A great Life Coach helps you find these hidden blessing!”
He points to his own experience in life as evidence of this. Barely after John’s 11 birthday, his father experienced a catastrophic heart attack and stroke that left his almost completely disabled and in a wheelchair for over 11 years and until his death. Although painful and devastating, the experience turned out to be one of John’s major motivators in his own life and taught lessons “no healthy father could teach.” Also, his mother’s strength, faith and compassion during this time, (raising 6 children) taught John that “nothing is impossible” and “with love there is always a will, a way and an answer!”
